Week 3

Colour switch/changes For this task, I began with creating thumbnails, of which I found strangely difficult. I struggled with creating interesting, unique ideas and it took me a while to settle on one that I actually liked. I did like my ideas of the eyes and the window casting shadows, but decided I wanted to sit more into my comfort zone so I could focus more on the actual colour switches. For my chosen piece I had been heavily inspired by this photo I had found on interest, decided that I would change the colours of the light cast through the window. I like how it turned out in the end, but I would definitely simply this design more and use bolder materials next time.

Colour Stories For this task, I decided to create digital work to present my chosen colour. I had chosen to look into Crimson Red, a colour I am familiar with as it is one I am researching for my main colour brief. Having all the research beforehand was incredibly helpful, and instead of choosing a story of the colours history, I decided to choose a story everyone is familiar with that includes that colour. Red riding hood is a very famous childhood story, a fable that has always used crimson red for the little girls cloak. The colour represents many things, but in this story I believe it represents attraction, bloodlust, warning/danger and innocence. In knowing this, I decided to base my drawings off of these ideas. I decided to go many creative ways with a variety of styles, but decided I particularly liked one and wanted to develop it further, pushing my ideas. If I were to develop this more I would make the image a lot bigger and add all the smaller details and lighting.

Character designs - From Shapes For this first task, we were asked to create multiple large pages full of random shapes of paint. I chose to close my eyes when doing this, making it entirely random. After this, we were asked to create characters out of the shapes. I found this task incredibly exciting as this is the type of task I enjoy, so I filled the normal pages quickly. I also created a larger scaled piece that is one of my favorites, a Kelpie inspired character that follows the flow of the paint. After this, we were asked to choose one/ create one character out of all the characters created on our sheets. I chose to combine two I created, a racoon with a backpack and a masked character. In doing this, I created Cliff and Ora. I have written about my ideas for Cliff and Ora, and any details I came up with whilst creating them. I would definitely love to use these characters for future projects and works, and possibly develop them further. If I were to develop this further, I...
