Scroll Ideas

Scroll Ideas and Experimentation For one of my format ideas, I had the idea to create a scroll. In wanting to push my idea further so its not so simple, I decided I wanted to add a viewfinder, and make the entire narrative look like it's moving. So, as you scroll through, the viewfinder would stay in place or move along with the scroll, as to not confuse the reader. Although I really liked the idea of this format, and how different it would be to everyone else, I found the technical aspects quite difficult to create, and having to rewind the scroll to the beginning would be difficult, so I decided to scrap the idea.  ←   My original ideas This page is the start of my experimentation for this format idea, showing me lightly sketching out different ideas, my inspirations and how it could work. Book Binding

Book Binding For this session we were tasked with creating books made of paper, bound together with two different techniques; the Japanese stab stitch and the saddle stitch. I found these exercises really fun to do, as seen by the amount of books I created. My history of textiles and paper work really came into play with these tasks, which made it overly easy to do. I would love to develop these ideas further by adding a leather bound or creating a thicker book, just to see how it would work. Japanese Stab Stitch Saddle Stitch

Colour story update Since my last post, I have been doing a lot of research into my colour and how I can explore it for this brief. After choosing my colour, I knew I wanted to explore the connotations of the colour Crimson, and how it is perceived and can be manipulated to change peoples perspectives. I began with my mind map, with the first few ideas I could look into. However, I quickly chose to look into my red riding hood idea, and how Crimson is very relevant to the classic fairy-tale. Although looking into this further, I decided to incorporate a deeper meaning that can be taken from the story, Women's safety. I will be doing this sensitively, and will be changing the story to better suit the topic and my ideas, whilst still being very focused on the colour. With this in mind, I have decided to focus on an older audience (young adults specifically). I also started looking into format ideas, and how they can help push and compliment my ideas further.
